I likely came upon it when spreading my net wide for information about Chandler.<br /><br />I think the author give Poe too little credit. Poe may have invented the humorous crime story as well, particularly the motif of the private detective and the dim-witted police officer.<br /><br />Thanks for reminding me of this.
