A Vintage Gift...

A lovely friend came across this treasure when sorting out her late Aunt's things and thought of me...

The Listener is New Zealand's radio and television guide, and it's been around a while. This edition is dated July 8 - 14 1978. Back then there were only two television channels to choose from! As well as having a great interview with Ngaio Marsh, it has the fabulous portrait by Murray Webb, one of our premier caricaturists. I didn't know this article or the picture existed, so I'm utterly rapt.

I also got to have a jolly good laugh - there are an extraordinary number of advertisements and they have provided a lot of entertainment - some things haven't survived the test of time...thank god! Looking at the television programming was great - a real trip down memory lane with my favourites of the day - The Muppets, The Tomorrow People, and Wonder Woman!

So thanks, Amanda - a treasure trove in many ways!

A real treasure! Fascinating reading I'm sure.
Also, it covers the week of my 18th birthday!

Thats a real blast from the past! While I don't remember that particular edition, one of my earliest memories is the New Year/Christmas edition (remember we had 2 weeks in 1 bumper version) for 1981 - showing my age now!!

It's showing all our ages!

Another thing that I'd forgotten was in those days as well as listing the programmes, they listed the casts - I guess with only two channels on offer they had to fill up the pages. And they listed which programmes were in colour!

Also The Listener was big - a third the size again of the current day version.

Sue, you would have been old enough to have been allowed to sit up and watch Starsky and Hutch.

I was still loving Sigmund the Sea Monster (-:

Not to mention only a few hours of broadcast time! What a pity "Goodnight Kiwi" is consigned to history!! (though isn't he somewhere on YouTube?)
