Congrats - the post about you is now the new record holder for comments on my fairly recent blog (7 and counting) - nice work.

Rachael - feel free to leave a comment on the blog post itself as well if you like, and check back now and then b/c I'll be running a competition to win a NZ crime book of your choice, soon....

Yes - what a great review of you and your work, Vanda. It's a nice blog too. Seems about time we had some NZ Crime Fiction Awards ...

You've read my mind Mary - I'll be doing an "awards" post on the blog later in the year... and depending how things go with a few various irons in the fire, finding a way to make that into something more 'official' and larger is one of the long-term goals...

Great write-up for you Vanda! I agree with Mary, time for some Crime Fiction Awards...

The question is, with the size of the New Zealand market, do we eventually aim for our own Crime Writers Association (with annual awards), or do we look to form more of a readers & writers association (e.g. like Janet Rudolph's San Fran-based Mystery Readers International, which also holds events and awards).

Regardless, I will be putting something of a stake in the ground in December, with my first annual "Ngaio" awards... (seemed the most appropriate title, linked to NZ, crime ficiton, and ties nicely with the Edgars from MWA and the Agathas from Malice Domestic). More info to follow on the Crime Watch blog over the coming weeks.

Thanks everyone, and thanks Craig!

Your Ngaio awards sound fun, Craig - good idea. Now what what was your postal address to bribe you with chocolate and baking?

My first thought Vanda, was to just do the awards myself (e.g. just announce what my personal faves/thoughts on crime fiction for the year were)... but because I might want them to grow into something larger eventually, I am contemplating making them a bit more 'professional' right from the start - perhaps with a panel of judges from NZ and overseas (might as well use my contacts eh?) - people involved in the publishing, writing, or reviewing of crime ficiton. I already have a few tabbed, or in mind.

I will be putting more about this on the Crime Watch blog soon.

Unfortunately, that involves a hell of a lot more work for me, but I'm thinking that "if you're going to do something, do it well"...

I will have a chat to you about various plans and ideas at some stage anyway...
