Today I got my traditional rejection letter from the latest round of Creative New Zealand Arts Grants. Then I got the traditional emails from my writer friends who were also declined.
This left me feeling a bit glum, so I did what I usually do when feeling blah and needing a pick me up - I popped on a nice frock, my sparkly high heeled summer shoes, popped on some make-up, pretty jewelery and went to town.
In town I swanned around the shops, met a friend for coffee, met hubby for lunch, and generally swished around in my fancy shoes.
I feel much better now.

I got a CNZ rejection letter too. Maybe I should buy some pretty shoes?
A most educational post! I suck at handling rejection letters, but obviously that is because I am not a shoe fetichist. I will try to remember buying a bunch of books next time; that might do the trick.
I too need to cure the post Creative NZ rejection blues. I think I will try your remedy tonight - it sounds like excellent advice.
I have heard from many fellow rejectees - wondering now who did get funded.
I highly recommend swanning around playing ladies as a balm to the rejection letter.
There is a lovely Curly girl greeting card that states:
"She packed up her potential and all she learned, grabbed a cute pair of shoes and headed out to change a few things."
I tell you, the shoes help!
Sorry to hear that Vanda. Shoes fix everything, I agree.
Creative NZ rejection letters seem to be the order of they day. I got one too. I will be fascinated to see who exactly did get funding in the literature round this time :-)
